Early Warning Signs Of Autonomous Tech Problems Mar Rosy New Vehicle Quality Picture

It’s good news for both automakers and consumers in the 2017 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study released today.

The quality of new vehicles improved by 8%, the largest increase since 2009. Equally good, for the second consecutive year, non-premium brands had fewer problems than more expensive premium brands, making new-vehicle quality more affordable than ever.

Korean brands did very well. Kia ranked highest in initial quality for the second year in a row as well. Quite a change from 1999 when it was dead last in the rankings. Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury division ranked second; and the Hyundai brand was in the number eight slot.
