Several major automakers are echoing this trend by putting more resources into crossovers and SUVs, especially the highly profitable large models, while curtailing or abandoning some sectors of the car market.
But before we write the car’s obituary, let’s remember that millions of cars are still being sold annually; in 2017 the top selling sedans, Toyota’s Camry and Honda’s Accord, accounted for about 720,000 units alone.
