Manheim economist sees used-vehicle prices easing in 2016

The number of off-lease vehicles slated to hit the market this year is expected to grow by more than 20 percent, but used-vehicle prices will decline only modestly in 2016, predicts Tom Webb, Manheim chief economist.

Efficient remarketing practices by commercial vehicle sellers, favorable interest rates and continued availability of credit are among the factors that will support both new- and used-vehicle sales this year, Webb said.

But with a half-million units being added to the off-lease total each year through at least 2018, things are bound to change, he said today during Manheim’s quarterly conference call. That means sharply lower used-vehicle prices at some point.
