More Women Join Trucking Industry, but Representation Is Still Below Standards

Thirty years ago, Dee Sova had a choice: go to nursing school or obtain her commercial driver license. Her husband at the time convinced her to join him on the road, so she chose the trucking industry. And when her marriage fell apart, with four children to raise, she was grateful she had the career.

“First of all, trucking gives you a sense of independence that no other career can give you. You’re literally in the open country by yourself, and you don’t have to answer to someone; it feels very liberating,” said Sova, who is employed with Prime Inc. Sova was also an America’s Road Team captain in 2019, which enabled her to educate the general public about safety.
