Samsung bid to close foundry gap with TSMC

That means getting to 3nm at the same time as TSMC.

And TSMC plans to start risk production on 3nm next year with mass production in 2022.

Whether Samsung can do it depends on two things, whether it can get enough EUV machines installed and yielding and whether it can get GAA transistor-based logic into production and yielding.

Back in August TSMC said it had the world’s largest installed base of EUV machines and since TSMC had only shipped 71 EUV machines at that time, that assumes TSMC has 35.
