It’s good news for both automakers and consumers in the 2017 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study released today.
The quality of new vehicles improved by 8%, the largest increase since 2009. Equally good, for the second consecutive year, non-premium brands had fewer problems than more expensive premium brands, making new-vehicle quality more affordable than ever.
Korean brands did very well. Kia ranked highest in initial quality for the second year in a row as well. Quite a change from 1999 when it was dead last in the rankings. Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury division ranked second; and the Hyundai brand was in the number eight slot.
