Typically when an automaker announces the development of a new powertrain for a production vehicle, the words downsized and turbocharged are near the top of the announcement because that’s the way things have been going of late.
But it could be that there is a change developing, one that has nothing to do with combustion.
That is, Renault has announced that its 2018 ZOE electric vehicle—which it says is the best-selling EV in Europe—is now getting a new motor, the R110. This motor is the same size and mass as its predecessor, the R90 (in fact, it is based on the R90), but it has 12 kW more output, 80 kW. (Peak torque: 225 Nm.)
