The hidden demand for self-driving vehicles

If you want to understand the market for a self-driving vehicle, don’t listen to what consumers say. Watch what they do.

A recent Bloomberg report cites studies from J.D. Power, EY, Kelley Blue Book and Bosch to make the case that consumers aren’t ready to trust autonomous-driving technology any more than they trust their computers to stop crashing.

“The driverless revolution is racing forward,” the report says, yet “people aren’t ready to give up the wheel,” suggesting that billions of dollars are being wasted on unmarketable technology.
