Toyota is recalling about 7,600 Prius vehicles from the 2016 model year because passenger-side airbags that may deploy accidentally due to malfunctioning inflators, the company said.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and dealers will replace the airbag assembly at no cost.
Toyota said the airbag assembly could have been welded improperly and perhaps misassembled, which could cause the airbag to partially inflate on its own.
