Ford wasn’t the first automaker to adopt downsized, gasoline, turbocharged direct-injection engines (GTDI) globally (Volkswagen) or even in Detroit (General Motors). It was however, first to making a broad commitment to use the technology across its lineup and base its mainstream fuel efficiency strategy on the concept. Now seven years after its production debut, the original EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 is getting a reboot while being paired with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with General Motors.
