The recent earthquakes in Japan halted manufacturing production for both high tech and auto manufacturers. Manufacturing has been stalled by many a natural disaster, and will be again.
Japan also endured an earthquake and resulting tsunami in 2011. That experience was a wake-up call to companies that either operate, or rely on parts produced in, the country’s factories. However, the recent events have shown that vulnerabilities still exist in the supply chains of both high tech and automotive manufacturing operations.
