SAIC Motor’s Lin-gang Factory Enhances Auto Manufacturing Precision

June 3, 2024

In the field of automotive innovation, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle is claiming a leading position with its cutting-edge advancements in smart manufacturing. This is most notably exemplified by the Lin-gang factory, a linchpin of modernization in the industry since its inception in 2008. Regarded as one of the pioneering facilities in China, the Lin-gang factory integrates the production of traditional combustion engines with the burgeoning manufacturing of new energy vehicles under one extensive roof, sprawling over 1.2 million square meters. The facility is not just a testament to SAIC’s manufacturing prowess, but it also serves as an essential base for both vehicle assembly and engine production.

The Digital Manufacturing Revolution

Spearheaded by factory director Chen Peifeng, the Lin-gang manufacturing haven has undergone a profound transformation. The facility’s strategic focus has been the thorough amalgamation of smart technology – from big data analytics to intelligent machinery, all aimed at fortifying the factory’s core business functions. This integration results in a highly precise and efficient manufacturing system. Such digitalization has borne fruit; it not only streamlines production processes but also substantially reduces costs. Analysts, who formerly bore the brunt of manual data interpretation, are now aided by systems that facilitate quicker, more accurate analyses.

As per Director Chen’s insights, these enhancements have significantly uplifted the factory’s capacity, now with the capability of rolling out a vehicle approximately every 70 seconds – that’s an impressive tally of 43 vehicles an hour. What’s more, operational improvements at Lin-gang have been tangible: an appreciable 3.8% decrease in energy consumed per vehicle, 6% reduced logistics costs per unit, and a savvy 2% cutback in potential inventory capital. Each of these efficiencies is closely monitored and acted upon through real-time data insights, establishing a streamlined path towards less waste and more productivity.

Outcomes of Embracing Intelligence in Manufacturing

SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle has emerged as a frontrunner in the auto innovation arena with groundbreaking strides in smart production. Their Lin-gang plant, operational since 2008, stands as a cornerstone of the industry’s progress. With 1.2 million square meters dedicated to blending traditional combustion engine and new energy vehicle production, the factory is a powerhouse in China’s automotive sector. The Lin-gang facility is much more than a manufacturing marvel for SAIC; it’s a critical hub for assembling vehicles and crafting engines. As traditional and renewable energy methods converge here, the factory underlines SAIC’s commitment to the future of motoring while supporting the dual demands of engine and vehicle creation. This duality marks a strategic merger of the old and the new, ensuring the Lin-gang factory’s role in propelling the automotive sector into a smarter, more sustainable era.
